Longtime Orient resident Marie E. Meklenburg died at her home March 27. She was 84.
Ms. Meklenburg was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Brooklyn to Marie (Gabby) and Svend Hammerum. She maried William Meklenburg Jan. 25, 1950, at Bethany Congregational Church in East Rockaway.
For 11 years, Ms. Meklenburg worked at Orient Beach State Park. She was also a past member of Oysterponds Historical Society and a member of Orient Congregational Church.
Family members said she enjoyed doing cross-stitch and playing Scrabble.
Ms. Meklenburg was predeceased by her husband, William, Jan. 25, 2001, and is survived by her daughters, Helen Nilsen of Houston, Texas; Kristine Hajduk of Richmond, Texas and Jennifer of Greenport; her sons, Kurt of Westford, Mass. and Kenny of Southold; her twin sister, Helen Fix; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors Tuesday, April 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral service will take place Wednesday, April 2, at 1 p.m. at Orient Congregational Church, officiated by Ann Van Cleef. Interment will follow at Orient Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the church or to East End Hospice.
