What a way to start the season.

Greenport sophomore Matt Drinkwater opened the 2013 season with a no-hitter against Shelter Island Monday in the first game of a League IX doubleheader. Drinkwater threw 105 pitches in the 6-3 win for the Porters at Shelter Island. He struck out 10 in the first no-hitter of his career.

Drinkwater, one of six returning starters for the Porters this season, had a big day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs.

In the second game, Greenport cruised 13-3 behind 14 strikeouts from Austin Hooks. While Drinkwater didn’t throw in the second game, he still batted and hit his first home run of the season.

Catcher Christian Angelson caught both games of the doubleheader and was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs in the second game.

Greenport hosts Smithtown Christian Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in its home opener.
